Bhagavad Gita 13.2

Sanskrit
क्षेत्रज्ञं चापि मां विद्धि सर्वक्षेत्रेषु भारत...
ksetrajnam capi mam viddhi sarva-ksetresu bharata...
Translation

Know the body as the field, and the one who knows it as the knower of the field.

Explanation

This verse introduces the key metaphysical distinction of Chapter 13 — between Kshetra (the field: body, mind, senses, and all of Prakriti) and Kshetrajna (the knower of the field: pure consciousness, Purusha). Krishna then identifies himself with the Kshetrajna in all fields — pointing to the universal consciousness that witnesses all individual experience. The entire practice of Jnana Yoga can be understood as learning to abide as the Knower rather than identifying as the field.

Life Application

During meditation, practice resting as the one who observes thoughts, sensations, and emotions — without being swept away by them.
